Tranzly vs WPML

The comparison Tranzly published with its listing, against its main competitor, WPML.

WPML is an established WordPress translation plugin that costs money, with yearly plans that bundle a fixed amount of AI-translated words. Tranzly is free on WordPress.org, supports unlimited languages and does not count words at all, because the translating is done through your own DeepL or AI account.

Tranzly stands out

Screenshot of the Tranzly homepage
  1. The free edition covers unlimited languages, along with translated addresses, hreflang and sitemaps.
  2. Since there are no word limits, you settle up with your translation service directly rather than buying word allowances.
  3. Each translated page adds two database queries at most, and there is no cookie, which leaves caching intact.
  4. Tranzly Pro can bring across WPML's languages, translations and translated texts, and the import can be reversed.

WPML is strong

  1. Every paid plan comes with a yearly quota of AI-translated words, so you do not need to set up a separate translation account.
  2. Alongside DeepL, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator, it provides a translation engine of its own.

Both

  1. Each plugin saves every translation as genuine WordPress content that has its own address.
  2. Machine translation from DeepL, Google and Microsoft is available through either plugin.

Where they differ

  1. WPML offers no free version, whereas Tranzly has a free edition listed on WordPress.org.
  2. On WPML's paid plans the AI-translated words come to 22,500 or 45,000 (the Blog plan has none); Tranzly sets no limit on words.
  3. Through 73 tools, Tranzly allows AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT to translate a site.
